Before Sharpsburg
A 17 year old farmer in Damascus, Spartanburg District, he enlisted as Private, Company F, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 9 August 1862.

He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
Missing after the battle, he died on 3 November 1862 of pneumonia (and probably effects of his wound) at Staunton, VA.
