A 43 year old farmer at Mount Willing, Edgefield District, he enlisted as Private, Company E, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 9 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by a gunshot to his right arm in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

His arm was amputated and he was at Howard's Grove Hospital in Richmond, VA by 22 October 1862. He was discharged for disability there on 10 November 1862.
