Before Sharpsburg

A 26 year old farmer on his father's place near Conwayboro, Horry District, he enlisted as Private, Company L, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 26 June 1861. He was ill in hospitals in November-December 1861 and March-June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 17 September 1862, probably on the field at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was wounded by a gunshot to his chest in action at Gettysburg, PA on 2 July 1863 and was furloughed for 20 days in August 1863. He was hospitalized, sick, from June to October 1864. He was killed at Bentonville, NC on 19 March 1865.
