Before Sharpsburg

Age 24, from Aiken, Barnwell District, he enlisted as Private, Company F, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 3 August 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by a gunshot to his left shoulder in action on Maryland Heights on 13 September 1862 and was captured nearby.

The rest of the War

He was in the US Army General Hospital in Chester, PA by 2 October and paroled in November. He was in a hospital in Petersburg, VA in December 1862 and January 1863 then furloughed for 40 days. He was slightly wounded at Chickamauga, GA on 20 September 1863, then, seriously, by a gunshot to the left side of his chest at the North Anna River, VA on 23 May 1864. He died at Jackson Hospital in Richmond on 23 July 1864.
