Before Sharpsburg

A 23 year old factory operative in Graniteville, Edgefield District, he enrolled as 3rd Lieutenant of Company F, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 1 June 1861. He was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant in about January 1862 and elected First Lieutenant in the reorganization of 13 May 1862.

On the Campaign

He was promoted to Captain on 17 September 1862, probably on the field at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was wounded in the leg at Chickamauga, GA on 20 September 1863 and his leg was amputated, but he died of wounds on 26 September 1863.
