Before Sharpsburg
After both of his parents died within two weeks of his birth, he was raised by his Aunt Lydia Lee (1800-1871), her sister Hannah (1804-1883), and her brother Sampson (1814-1875), none of whom seem to have ever married. He was a 21 year old worker on their farm in Goshen Hill, Union District, when he enlisted as a Corporal in Company L, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 8 July 1862.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
