Before Sharpsburg
A 20 year old farmer at Shatterfield, Edgefield District, he enlisted as Private, Company K, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 15 April 1861.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the leg in action on Maryland Heights on 13 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He returned to duty about October 1863 when he was detailed on hospita duty in Marietta, GA. He was back with his comamand, as a regimental mail carrier by February 1864, but was killed in action at Petersburg, VA on 22 June 1864.
