Before Sharpsburg
A 19 year old farmer in the Abbeville District, he enlisted as Private, Company D, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 15 April 1861.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in the left leg in action on Maryland Heights near Harpers Ferry on 13 September 1862.
The rest of the War
His leg was amputated and he was in a Staunton, VA hospital by 26 October. He was in CSA General Hospital #3 in Richmond, VA by 14 November, but died there from gangrene of his wound on 17 December 1862.
