Before Sharpsburg
A 17 year old living on his father's substantial farm at Graniteville, Edgefield District in 1860, he enlisted as Private, Company H, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 15 April 1861. He was promoted to 5th Sergeant in September 1862.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action on Maryland Heights near Harpers Ferry on 13 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He died of wounds at Charles Town, VA on 16 October 1862.
