Before Sharpsburg
Age 20, he enlisted as a Private, Company B, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 15 April 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was wounded again, at Fredericksburg, VA on 13 December 1862. He was in hospitals and on furlough into early 1863. He was detailed to the Conscript Department in South Carolina about October 1863 and returned to his Company about April 1864. He was surrendered on 26 April 1865 and paroled at Greensboro, NC on 2 May 1865.
