Before Sharpsburg

An 18 year old farmer at Fruit Hill, Edgefield District, he enlisted as Private, Company G, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 19 March 1862. He transferred to Company M in May 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was wounded again, slightly, at Fredericksburg, VA on 13 December 1862. He was appointed Color Corporal in late 1864. He was surrendered on 26 April 1865 and paroled at Greensboro, NC on 2 May 1865.
