From Leesville, Lexington District, enlisted as 2nd Sergeant of Company M, 7th South Carolina Infantry on 26 March 1862.

On the Campaign

He was with his Company on the Maryland Campaign.

The rest of the War

He was appointed First Sergeant on 1 December 1862. He was wounded by a gunshot through his left lung in action at Gettysburg, PA on 2 July 1863, at a hospital in Richmond to 21 July, then furloughed. He was detailed as an enrolling officer in the Lexington District about June 1864. He was discharged, then a member of the Invalid Corps, on 28 December 1864.
