Before Sharpsburg

A 22 year old farmer, he enlisted as Private, Company D, 16th Virginia Infantry at South Boston, VA on 14 May 1861. He was promoted to 5th Sergeant on 6 May 1862.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was paroled on 30 September and in a hospital in Winchester, VA by 13 October. He died of wounds in Halifax County, VA on 29 November 1862.
