Before Sharpsburg

His father died about the time he was born and by 1860 he was a 21 year old farmer on his widowed mother's place at Rock Hill in the York District, SC. He enlisted there on 13 August 1861 as a Private in Company H, 12th South Carolina Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in the arm and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was paroled on 27 September but died of wounds that date. His mother Jane filed for his final pay in January 1863.
