A 21 year old farmer in the Newberry District, he enlisted as Private, Company G, 13th South Carolina Infantry on 26 August 1861.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and died the next day.

His service from the Roll,1 which has him as D.C. Singley and that he was killed outright at Sharpsburg. Thanks to Barry Truluck for details from his Compiled Service Records via fold3, and the 1850 and 1860 US Census.

He married Francis Amanda Sligh (1843-1912) and they had a son, Calvin, in 1862.
