Before Sharpsburg
A 21 year old farmer in the Newberry District, he enlisted as Private, Company G, 13th South Carolina Infantry on 26 August 1861.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and died the next day.

He married Francis Amanda Sligh (1843-1912) and they had a son, Calvin, in 1862.
