An 18 year old farmer at Pleasant Mound in the Laurens District, he enlisted as Private, Company E, 14th South Carolina Infantry on about 1 September 1861.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Boteler's Ford near Shepherdstown on 20 September 1862.
