Age 17, from the Richland District, he enlisted as Private, Company A, 15th South Carolina Infantry about 1 September 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded three times in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and captured.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 22 October with a compound fracture of his leg and was transferred out, for later exchange, on 17 January 1863. He died later in the war.
