Age 22, from the Laurens District, he enlisted as Private, Company B, 15th South Carolina Infantry about 1 September 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and captured.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to a US Amy hospital in Frederick, MD on 25 November 1862 with a fractured right humerus (upper arm bone) and transferred to another hospital on 29 December 1862. He was probably exchanged and returned to his Company in 1863. He survived the war.
