Before Sharpsburg

Age 22, from the Kershaw District, he enlisted as Private, Company D, 15th South Carolina Infantry on 26 August 1861 in Camden, SC. He was listed as a deserter in April 1862 and the subject of a court-martial, outcome not given, in July 1862.

On the Campaign

He was listed as missing in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862 but had been captured there.

The rest of the War

He was held at Fort Delaware to 2 October then sent to Aiken's Landing, VA for exchange. He was declared exchanged on 10 November 1862. On the Company muster roll for February 1862, he was listed as still missing and "supposed to he dead." There is no later military record.
