Son of a wealthy planter, in 1860 he was a 24 year old living with his father, sister, and 77 slaves at Winnsboro in the Fairfield District, SC. He enlisted on 1 Februray 1862 at Union Court House, SC and mustered as a Private in Company F, 15th South Carolina Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
