He died of wounds, probably in Richmond, VA on 4 January 1863.

His service from the Roll,1 which has him as Frank Cox and says he was killed at Gettysburg, and the index to his Compiled Service Records via the Historical Data Systems database, as R.F. Cox. Personal details from family genealogists. His gravesite is on Findagrave, which has text that his mortal wounding was at Second Manassas.
