A 31 year old farmer in the Williamsburg District, he enlisted there as Private, Company G, 15th South Carolina Infantry on 13 April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to the CS General Hospital in Charlottesville, VA on 9 November and died there of pneumonia on 14 November 1862.

References & notes

His service from the Roll,1 which has him as George W Spring and says he was killed on South Mountain, and his Compiled Service Records, online from fold3, as G.W. Spring. He's seen in hospital records as G.W. Sprigg. His widow Fanny/Franny E Spring collected his final pay in August 1863.
