He enlisted on 22 January 1862 in Columbia, SC and mustered as a Private in Company B, 22nd South Carolina Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by a gunshot to his hand in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to a hospital in Richmond, VA on 28 September and furloughed for 30 days on 10 October 1862, which was extended in November and again in December 1862. He was listed as a deserter as of 29 August 1863 and "at home," but returned by December 1863. He was with his company to 25 February 1865, then absent without leave with no later military record.
