Before Sharpsburg

From the Anderson District, he enlisted as Private, Company G, 22nd South Carolina Infantry on about 15 January 1862 and was promoted to Corporal, date not given.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by a gunshot to his right leg in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862 and captured.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 19 September and was in hospitals there to at least 15 January 1863. He was then probably exchanged and returned to his Company.
