He enlisted as Private, Company B, 13th Virginia Infantry on 15 May 1862 at Culpeper Court House, VA.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He returned to duty nearly a year later and was captured at Spotsylvania Court House, VA on 12 May 1864. He was held at Fort Delaware until 19 June 1865, when he was released on taking the oath of allegiance.
