A 31 year old farmer in Nashua, NH, he enlisted as Private, Company G, 2nd US Sharpshooters on 21 November 1861 and mustered on 12 December.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862 and died there the next day.
