Before Antietam
From Hollidaysburg, he enlisted as a Private in Company A, 3rd Pennsylvania Infantry for 3 months' service on 20 April 1861. He mustered out with his Company on 29 July in Harrisburg. He the enlisted as Private, Company I, 137th Pennsylvania Infantry on 20 August 1862.

He died of disease on 24 September 1862 at a hospital in Fredrick, MD.
