He enlisted on 10 August 1861 in Albany, GA and mustered as First Sergeant of Company D, Cobb's Legion Cavalry. He was elected 2nd Lieutenant on 30 December 1861. He was promoted to First Lieutenant about June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at the Quebec Schoolhouse near Middletown, MD on 13 September 1862.
