He enlisted as Private, Company B, 4th South Carolina Cavalry Battalion on about 1 April 1862 and mustered as Private, Company C, 2nd SC Cavalry at the consolidation of August 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded by a gunshot which fractured his tibia (shin bone) in action in Maryland, place and date not given.
The rest of the War
He was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 22 October 1862 and was transferred out, probably through Baltimore for exchange, on 9 February 1863.
