Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 20 year old farmer living with his widowed mother and 6 siblings on their prosperous farm in the Union District, SC. He enlisted there on 13 September 1861 and mustered in Columbia, SC on 16 September as a Private in the Macbeth Light Artillery. He was appointed 4th Corporal by 31 October and promoted to Sergeant sometime after April 1862.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
