Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 17 year old living with his parents and 10 siblings on their farm in the Union District, SC. He enlisted on 13 September 1861 in the Union District, SC, and mustered in Columbia on 16 September as a Private in the Macbeth Light Artillery.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds on 17 or 18 September and was originally buried in Shepherdstown, VA.

His father Thomas filed a claim for his final pay in May 1863.
