An 18 year old college student from the Sumter District, he enlisted as a Private in the Palmetto Artillery on about 1 August 1861. He was appointed Guidon (flag bearer), date not given.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

After the War

In 1900 he was a canvasser in Atlanta, GA and in 1910 he was listed as a collector there.
