A mason in Hendersonville, he enlisted as Private, Company E, 7th Tennessee Infantry on about 15 May 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the chest in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and captured.

The rest of the War

He was exchanged and wounded and captured again, in the right arm at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863. He was exchanged in August 1864 and in hospitals to the end of the war.
