Before Sharpsburg

A clerk in Gallatin, he enlisted as Private, Company E, 7th Tennessee Infantry on about 15 May 1861. He was promoted to 2nd Sergeant on 31 October 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the chest in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was wounded again, in the head and left leg at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863. He was commissioned Captain on 27 April 1864 and was surrendered at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.
