Before Sharpsburg

A farmer in Dixon Springs, he enlisted as 3rd Sergeant, Company G, 7th Tennessee Infantry on about 15 May 1861. He was commissioned 3rd Lieutenant on 26 April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on 17 September at Sharpsburg and was wounded by a gunshot to his shoulder in action at Boteler's Ford near Shepherdstown, VA on 20 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was wounded again, and captured, at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863 and was a prisoner for the rest of the war.
