A merchant's clerk in Lebanon, he enlisted as a Private, Company I, 7th Tennessee Infantry about 15 May 1861. He was appointed 2nd Lieutenant, date not given.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded by a gunshot to his neck in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was taken by ambulance to Jordan Springs near Winchester, VA but died there of complications from his wound in October 1862.
