A farmer at Alexandria, he enlisted as 3rd Corporal, Company A, 7th Tennessee Infantry on about 15 May 1861. He was reduced to Private on 30 April 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the left leg in action at Boteler's Ford near Shepherdstown, VA on 20 September 1862.
The rest of the War
His leg was amputated and he was furloughed from 18 April 1863.
