Before Antietam

Age 21, from Camden, he enlisted on 19 September 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company B, 1st Maine Cavalry on 19 October. He was injured by a horse falling on him at Front Royal, VA in June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action near Frederick, MD, probably about 12 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was exchanged and returned to his Company but was discharged for disability from injury on 24 February 1863 in Alexandria, VA.
