A married 25 year old farmer in Wedowee, he enlisted as Private, Company D, 13th Alabama Infantry on 19 July 1861 in Montgomery.

On the Campaign

He survived the combat at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September but was killed by a gunshot through his lungs in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
