An unmarried 20 year old merchant in Wesobulga, he enlisted as 2nd Sergeant of Company D, 13th Alabama Infantry on 19 July 1861 in Montgomery.

On the Campaign

He was with his Company at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September but was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
