Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 27 year old farmer living with his wife, children, and widower father John next door to several Welch in-laws at Montgomery, AL. He was probably farming at Wetumpka in Elmore County, AL by 26 July 1861 when he enlisted in Montgomery and mustered as a Private in Company K, 13th Alabama Infantry. He was promoted to 4th Sergeant on 20 January 1862 and appointed First Sergeant on 20 July.

On the Campaign

He was with his Company at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September but was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

His widow filed for his final pay in February 1863.
