He enlisted as Private, Company A, 26th Alabama Infantry about October 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by a gunshot to his leg in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and was captured.

The rest of the War

By January 1863 he was in the Calvert Street US Army hospital in Baltimore. He was paroled and sent to the CSA General Hospital in Petersburg, VA, and furloughed from there on 2 March 1863.
