Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted as First Corporal of Company A, 26th Alabama Infantry on 3 October 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action near Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to the Winder Hospital in Richmond, VA on 27 September and furloughed for 40 days on 7 October. He was promoted to 4th Sergeant by July 1863. He was wounded again, in the leg, at Gettysburg, PA in July 1863 and captured there. He was exchanged on 21 July and sent to a hospital in Petersburg, VA. He as furloughed for his wound on 16 September 1863, returned to duty, and was captured at Nashville, TN on 16 December 1864. He was held at Camp Chase, OH.
