Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted as First Sergeant of Company C, 26th Alabama Infantry on 7 December 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was captured at Chancellorsville, VA on 3 May 1863 and paroled the next day. He was later listed on the Roll of Honor for his action there. He was wounded again, at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863 and was captured in a field hospital there on 5 July. He was briefly at the hospital in Fort Delaware but was exchanged on 31 July and returned to duty.
