He enlisted as Private, Company C, 26th Alabama Infantry on 28 April 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in his right arm in action near Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was in a hospital in Winchester, VA and furloughed for 30 days on 9 October. He was captured at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863 and died of smallpox while a prisoner at Fort Delaware on 20 November 1863.
