He enlisted as 5th Sergeant, Company C, 26th Alabama Infantry on 7 December 1861.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action near Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was captured Altoona Pass on the Chattahoochie River on 4 July 1864 and was held at Camp Douglas. He mustered into the 5th US Volunteer Infantry on 14 April 1865.
