He was wounded in action near Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862 and captured.

The rest of the War

He was in a hospital in Chester, PA in October then held in Fort Delaware. He was exchanged at Fortress Monroe, VA on 15 December 1862 and returned to duty.
