Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted as First Sergeant, Company I, 26th Alabama Infantry on 3 August 1861.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was treated at a hospital and in a private home in Richmond, VA. He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 4 December 1862 and was captured at Chancellorsville, VA on 3 May 1863. He was paroled on 18 May and returned to duty, date not given. He was promoted to First Lieutenant on 1 June 1863 and captured again, at Gettysburg, PA on 1 July. He was held at Fort Delaware, then on Johnson's Island, OH. He was paroled and sent to Point Lookout, MD on 14 March 1865 for later exchange there.
