He enlisted as Private, Company K, 26th Alabama Infantry on 3 October 1861.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the hip at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and captured.
The rest of the War
He was paroled at Fort McHenry on 27 September, exchanged at Fortress Monroe, VA on 13 October, and in a hospital in Richmond until returning to duty on 14 November 1862. He was promoted to 4th Corporal by April 1864.
