He was wounded in action near Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He returned to duty on 5 February 1863, and was promoted to Corporal, date not given. He was captured at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863 and held at Fort Delaware, but he died there of a lung infection on 27 September 1863.
